What are Wearable Technologies?

Stated within the name, wearable technology are technological devices that can be worn. Forms of wearable technologies include accessories, jewellery, clothing (or aspects of clothing), and medical devices (Rouse 2019). Common examples of these technologies are smartwatches (Apple watches etc.), fitness trackers, Google Glass, and VR headsets (virtual reality), which are used widely in modern society.

The Demand for Wearable Technologies

Over the past decade, the growth of these technologies has rapidly increased, as demands in the market have vastly gained popularity. With more and more people relying on their wearable devices for everyday activities, the need for wearable computers in everyday life may be beneficial. However, with these emerging technologies quite recent, negatives such as privacy and security issues have surfaced over the past years. Debates have also risen upon recent years regarding these issues, resulting in a slight decline in these specific devices.
